Death Cafe
Death Cafe is an informal gathering at a coffee place, to chat with strangers about death related topics. I have been hosting Death Cafes for couple of years both in Estonia and Spain.
What is a Death Cafe?
It is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session. Our goal is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.
You can read more about the concept here: deathcafe.com
What to expect?
We’ll kick things off with a quick intro round—no pressure, just say hi. Then it’s on to the main event: discussing life, death, and everything in between. Got a topic or question? Bring it! Prefer to just listen? That’s cool too.
We wrap up with a closing circle, but feel free to stick around for more chatter afterward. The event lasts 1.5 hours, plus 15 minutes to grab a drink and settle in.
For whom?
Death Cafe can be just a public event, but also is very beneficial for health care professionals and health care students. Giving opportunity to share experiences and thoughts about the topic, preventing compassion fatigue. Generally these events are for adults, but leaving out people who's grief is very fresh. Participant should reflect before coming, if they are ready for it.
For extra fun, now Death Cafe's can be held also with Death Deck cards.
